ProxiScan™, a compact gamma camera for imaging of radionuclides distributed in the body developed by Hybridyne Imaging Technologies, Inc. and Brookhaven National Laboratory, can localize the uptake of radiation in tissue in detail assisting with diagnosis at an early stage and with radiopharmaceutical-guided surgery. Based on cadmium zinc telluride detectors, ProxiScan™ delivers high-resolution images for detecting small areas of interest.

The photo shows ProxiScan™ - a gamma camera system for high-resolution imaging of anatomical regions. The whole system consists of the probe, power supply with communication box, and computer.
ProxiScan™ is a cancer imaging device that has been cleared by the U.S. Food And Drug Administration.
ProxiScan™ is intended for the use of imaging the distribution of radionuclides in the human body using planar imaging techniques. It may also be used for intraoperative investigations, on pathological specimens, and for endocavity applications if a protective sheath is used.
Principle of Operation
The photo shows two multi-pixel CZT detector arrays and collimator used in each system. The detector modules integrated with collimator, application-specific integrated circuits and a portion of the pulse-processing electronics are shown at top.
